To discuss the ultrasonic manifestations of renal oncocytoma and analyze the cause of misdiagnosis.
Methods:
The clinical data of one case with renal oncocytoma was analyzed retrospectively. The relative literatures were reviewed.
Results:
This case was hospitalized in Minhang Hospital
Fudan University
Shanghai
for physical examination. The routine sonography showed an ill-defined hyper-echoic lesion in the right kidney. A month later
contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in a superior hospital found that the lesion's imaging manifestations were similar to that of a malignant renal tumor
and it was finally diagnosed as renal cell carcinoma. After surgery in Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center
it was d
iagnosed as renal oncocytoma. No relapse occurred in the follow-up of six months.
Conclusion:
Renal oncocytoma is rare. As its imaging manifestations are similar to that of a malignant tumor
it is often misdiagnosed. The clinicians should fully understand this disease and complete diagnostic thinking to avoid and reduce misdiagnosis.
